We’re really delighted that our next Port tasting is going ahead on Thursday 7th November, in the McGrath suite at the Lyric Theatre, at 7.30pm.
The tasting is going to be led by Nick Delaforce, chief winemaker for Ports at Niepoort. Niepoort is one of the most fascinating and experimental Port producers in the business, run by Dirk Niepoort, the fifth generation of his family to make Port. From their vineyards and wineries in the Douro valley, Niepoort make an astoundingly wide range of top quality Ports and Douro wines. Have a look at their excellent website for a little more information about the company and their products.
Nick has been with Niepoort since 2003, having worked previously for Croft and for his own family’s company. He runs the Niepoort operation at their Port winery in Vale de Mendiz, high up in the Douro. For this evening, Nick will lead us through some of Niepoort’s wonderful and distinctive ports: from white, ruby and tawnies, to aged tawnies and, of course, vintages. These are top quality ports, and we’re very pleased that they’ll be available at a special price to anyone attending the tasting, from The Vineyard in Belfast, thanks to Robb Bros Wines.
We’ll start the evening with a buffet, paired with some of Niepoort’s table wines. Unfortified wine is a rapidly growing part of the Douro story, and Portuguese wine is becoming increasingly well regarded, so we’re very pleased to be able to introduce some you mightn’t have come across, and a new vintage too. Then we have six ports to taste, including Niepoort’s 2001 Colheita, and two vintages, the 2000 and the brand new 2011, just bottled this year and scoring excellent ratings around the world.
This is going to be a fun evening, and we really hope you can join us. Tickets are £25, and places are limited so please contact us if you’d like to attend.
